Surat/Vadodara: Ending a prolonged dry spell, rain returned to parts of Gujarat on Saturday, with several areas of South Gujarat receiving moderate to heavy showers. Umarpada in Surat district recorded 66mm of rain in just two hours between 6pm and 8pm, taking its rainfall since 6am to 73mm.In Dang, Ahwa and Subir recorded 49mm each, while Waghai received 24mm. Ukai in Tapi recorded 24mm. In Bharuch district, Netrang received 23mm, Jhagadia 21mm and Valia 19mm.Rain also began in parts of Surat district, including Olpad, during the night. Surat city witnessed drizzle at some places amid cloudy conditions.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rain at a few places, with isolated extremely heavy rain, in Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli on Sunday. Isolated very heavy rain is also likely in Bharuch, Surat, Tapi and Dang, as well as Amreli and Bhavnagar in Saurashtra. Authorities have alerted residents in view of the forecast.Meanwhile, rainfall in Vadodara district remained light. The district recorded an average of 1.63mm on Saturday, with Shinor and Dabhoi receiving the highest rainfall at 5mm each, according to the district control room.Waghodia recorded 2mm and Karjan 1mm, while Savli, Vadodara, Padra and Desar remained dry till Saturday evening.Most of the rainfall in Vadodara was recorded in the morning and late afternoon, with the district averaging 0.63mm between 6am and 8pm.
