Elderly man loses ₹9 lakh in govt job scam

Pune: The Sangvi police are searching for a man from Akola district who allegedly duped a 65-year-old resident of Pimple Gurav of Rs 9 lakh by promising to secure a government job for his son-in-law.According to the complainant, he came into contact with the accused in Sept 2024. The accused claimed to have contacts in the state government and promised to secure a job for the complainant’s son-in-law in a government department.“The accused took Rs 9 lakh from the complainant,” an officer from the Sangvi police said.The officer said that when the complainant’s son-in-law did not get the job, the complainant repeatedly approached the accused seeking a refund. However, the accused allegedly kept avoiding him on one pretext or another.“When the complainant realised that he had been duped, he approached the police. We have registered a case against the accused under sections 316 (criminal breach of trust) and 318 (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),” the officer said.
