NEW DELHI: While many roads around the BRICS Summit venue remained clear Saturday, some parts of Delhi witnessed heavy traffic, with some stretches taking much longer than usual to cross.Navigation apps showed an additional 14 minutes on the Ashram-Sarai Kale Khan stretch, while congestion was also reported around AIIMS and parts of Ring Road.Sources suggested that the diversions were contributing to the congestion on some stretches. However, Delhi Traffic Police, in an online post, attributed the disruption to rainfall, vehicle breakdowns, and a large gathering of devotees for Guru Parv.“Traffic was affected on both carriageways of Moti Bagh-AIIMS, as well as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Setu, Sarai Kale Khan, Vande Mataram Marg and Main Rohtak Road,” traffic police posted.The congestion came amid the second day of traffic restrictions for the BRICS Summit, with several roads in central and south Delhi being regulated or diverted for the movement of dignitaries.Commuters on the affected stretches reported longer travel times, with navigation apps reflecting delays on some key routes. Traffic police advised commuters to avoid the affected roads, take alternate routes and allow extra travel time.Traffic personnel were deployed on the ground to regulate movement and minimise inconvenience. Police also urged commuters to remain patient and cooperate with personnel deployed on the affected routes.Delhi Traffic Police said it was making efforts to regulate traffic and minimise disruption.
