Ahmedabad: Two men were arrested by Sola High Court police for allegedly smuggling IMFL in a Toyota Fortuner fitted with a fake registration number plate. Police seized liquor worth Rs 5 lakh and other valuables, taking the total value of the seized items to Rs 18.8 lakh.Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted an SUV on SP Ring Road near the Bhadaj crossroads underpass. During the search, officers recovered 3,012 bottles and beer cans of IMFL concealed in the vehicle. The SUV, mobile phones and the liquor consignment were seized.The arrested men, both residents of Barmer district in Rajasthan, are accused of transporting the consignment into Ahmedabad in violation of Gujarat’s prohibition laws. Investigators are trying to ascertain the source of the liquor and identify the intended recipients of the consignment.Police said the accused had allegedly fitted the Fortuner with a fake number plate to avoid detection. A case has been registered under provisions of Gujarat Prohibition Act and BNS for offences including possession and transportation of liquor and use of a forged registration plate.Officials are also examining whether the accused are linked to a larger interstate liquor smuggling network operating between Rajasthan and Gujarat. Investigation is underway to trace others involved in the supply chain.
