Mapusa: Goa excise department officials intercepted a liquor smuggling attempt late Tuesday night and seized over 200 boxes of illicit liquor at Satarde, Naibag-Poroscodem in Pernem.The vehicle, carrying consignments of local liquor brands allegedly concealed beneath fertiliser bags, was travelling from Karwar to Satara in Maharashtra.The driver was taken into custody. Excise officials said the value of the seized liquor is being assessed, while investigations are underway to trace the source and intended destination of the consignment.“Liquor boxes were concealed under the fertiliser bags. The vehicle is suspected to have left Karwar and was proceeding toward Satara, Maharashtra. The liquor is mainly of local brands. Estimation of the quantity of liquor and its worth is under way,” said an excise official who was part of the operation.
