NEW DELHI: Heavy to very heavy rain is likely across several parts of the country on Wednesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of intense monsoon showers over parts of north, central, east, northeast and west India.Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh are also likely to receive heavy rain, while the monsoon is expected to remain active across much of the country over the next few days.
IMD alert for Wednesday
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra and western Uttar Pradesh.Heavy rainfall is also forecast over Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, east and west Madhya Pradesh, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely in several states, including Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Telangana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Delhi-NCR weather tomorrow
Delhi and adjoining areas are expected to witness heavy rain as monsoon conditions remain favourable.Parts of Haryana and Punjab are also likely to receive heavy rainfall, with rain expected to continue across the region through the week.
North India under rain watch
Heavy rain is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and both western and eastern Uttar Pradesh.The IMD has also warned of very heavy rainfall in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh.
East and northeast India forecast
Bihar is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain on Wednesday, while Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal are expected to continue witnessing widespread monsoon showers.In the northeast, Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive heavy rainfall, while Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are also under a heavy rain alert.
Rain forecast for western and central India
Konkan, Goa and central Maharashtra are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, while Gujarat is also likely to witness heavy showers.Heavy rain is also forecast over Chhattisgarh and parts of Madhya Pradesh as monsoon conditions remain active across central India.
South India forecast
Rain is expected to continue over coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu and interior Karnataka.Thunderstorms are also likely in parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Monsoon update
The IMD said active monsoon conditions are likely to continue over large parts of the country through July 24, bringing widespread rainfall across northwest, central, eastern and northeastern India.
IMD’s latest forecast for the next few days
The weather office has indicated that heavy rainfall is likely to persist over parts of northwest India, central India, the northeast and the west coast over the next three to four days.Monsoon conditions are expected to remain favourable for widespread rain across much of the country through the week.
