AHMEDABAD: Several cars were submerged after heavy rain flooded a parking lot in the Gunjan area of Vapi city in Gujarat’s Valsad district, with dramatic videos from the site showing vehicles almost completely underwater as torrential rain continued to batter the region.The incident occurred in the Gunjan area of Vapi, one of the worst-hit pockets in Valsad district, which has witnessed extremely heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours.Videos circulating on social media showed dozens of parked cars submerged in floodwaters, highlighting the extent of waterlogging caused by incessant rain.Valsad has recorded over 1,100 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, prompting large-scale rescue operations across the district.More than 1,200 people have been rescued from rain-hit areas as floodwaters inundated several residential localities.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy to very heavy rainfall over parts of south Gujarat, with authorities urging residents to remain indoors unless necessary.Heavy rain has disrupted normal life across several districts of Gujarat, with low-lying areas submerged, roads inundated and transport affected.The state government has deployed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local administration teams in flood-affected areas as rescue and relief operations continue.Authorities have appealed to people living in vulnerable areas to follow official advisories and avoid venturing into waterlogged stretches.
