Stones hurled at police by CJP protesters near Jantar Mantar; heavy security deployed
Police urged the protesters to maintain peace and refrain from resorting to violence, sources added.

NEW DELHI: Tension flared near Jantar Mantar on Tuesday evening after CJP protesters allegedly pelted stones at police personnel, leading to the deployment of additional security forces in the area, sources said. A section of the protesters threw stones at police teams stationed near the protest site. There was no immediate confirmation of any injuries in the incident, according to news agency PTI. Police urged the protesters to maintain peace and refrain from resorting to violence, sources added. As a precautionary measure, heavy security was deployed in and around Jantar Mantar to prevent the situation from escalating further. The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has been holding a protest at Jantar Mantar since June 6, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged paper leaks. The latest incident comes a day after police used lathi-charge and tear gas to disperse protesters attempting to march towards Parliament on the opening day of the Monsoon session. The clashes on Monday left 118 police personnel and 60 protesters injured.
