Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday accused TVK govt of failing to procure paddy on time which has result in the damage of around 50,000 ]tonnes of paddy in Chengalpet due to sudden rain. Apart from this, around 50,000 bags of paddy kept in the open in direct procurement centres in Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore and Kancheepuram have been damaged in sudden rains, he said.In a statement, Palaniswami said paddy bags brought to direct procurement centres over the last couple of days had been left in the open, leaving them drenched and spoiled.He urged TVK govt “not to play with farmers’ lives” and demanded immediate paddy procurement through DPCs. He also alleged Vijay’s govt had betrayed all sections of people in the state by failing to live up to its promises.
