Panaji: A major fire was reported in Anjuna near the flea market, causing significant property losses. The fire destroyed huts and cottages meant for tourists. Fortunately, no injuries or loss of life were reported. The cottages were situated at Monteiro Waddo and were shut at the time of the fire.Fire and emergency services personnel from the Mapusa fire station rushed to the spot and successfully brought the fire under control.“We got a call around 2.30am saying that thatched huts at Anjuna were on fire. Three huts were destroyed and one we managed to save. According to the owner, the losses are estimated at around 2 lakh while we managed to save assets worth Rs 5 lakh. The huts were closed and we have not yet identified the cause of the fire,” said a firefighter.Firefighters struggled to reach the huts as the access road was narrow. The department rushed three firetrucks to fight the fire.
