Bethora residents gherao officials over water woes

Ponda: At least 50 residents of Sapana colony in Bethora, Ponda, gheraoed drinking water department officials on Monday over continued irregular water supply. They threatened a “Ghagar Morcha” after four days if the supply is not normalised.Despite assurances from chief minister Pramod Sawant, residents have not regularly received water for the past three months.Villagers met junior engineer Raghuvir Parab and demanded that the problem be resolved in two days.“We have warned them to resolve the issue immediately; else we would bring a Ghagar Morcha after four days”, said Dilip Naik, president of the residents’ group.Parab said the irregular supply was due to three joints at a single location over the main line that brought potable water from Opa water works to Ponda.“We have shifted their pipeline joint to maintain pressure. This should resolve the issue,” said Parab.Parab said water from the main line was transferred into a 300 CuM ground level reservoir (GLR) at Sapana Park colony using a 200mm ductile iron pipeline, and then released to domestic connections from the GLR via distribution lines.
