CHIDAMBARAM: A 16-year-old Class 11 student is battling for her life after a man allegedly entered her house and stabbed her in the neck with a knife after she repeatedly rejected his advances, police said.The incident took place on Sunday at the teenager’s residence in Keezhamoongiladi village in Cuddalore district.The accused, identified as Iyappan, was known to visit the girl’s house for electrical repair work, during which he allegedly developed an infatuation for her.A police official said he had approached the minor several times, but she had consistently turned down his proposals.Police said Iyappan took advantage of the absence of the girl’s mother, who had gone to work at a textile shop.Knowing that the teenager was alone at home, he allegedly entered the house on Sunday.When the girl rejected his advances once again, Iyappan allegedly attacked her with a knife, causing a deep wound to her neck, before fleeing the spot.The teenager’s cries alerted neighbours, who rushed to the house and called an ambulance.She was taken to the Chidambaram Government Hospital, where doctors stated her condition is critical.Chidambaram Taluk police have registered a case in connection with the incident and launched a search operation to apprehend Iyappan, who remains absconding.(With PTI inputs)
