The first Sawan Somwar (or Shravan) of 2026 falls on Monday, August 3, 2026. Sawan will begin on July 30, 2026. The first Monday of the holy month is especially important for devotees of Lord Shiva. Sawan Somwar is considered a powerful force for overcoming stress, building mental strength, securing blessings for marriage, and promoting peace and health. Devotees observe a fast, offer water to the Shivling, chant Shiva mantras and pray with devotion. Bholenath is another name of Lord Shiva. This name is given to him because he accepts simple worship. Enough is the clean water given with a pure heart. Those who wish to observe all four Sawan Somwar fasts should take a simple sankalp on this day.

Jalabhishek Time on First Sawan Somwar
The best time to perform Jalabhishek on the First Sawan Somwar of 2026 is early morning, after bathing and after sunrise. Devotees are free to visit a Shiva temple or do puja at home. It is believed that Lord Shiva should be worshipped in the morning when the mind is fresh and cool. If morning puja is not possible, Jalabhishek can also be performed during Pradosh Kaal around sunset. The muhurat will vary by city and tradition, so devotees should consult the local Panchang for special puja or temple rituals.
What to Offer During Jalabhishek
Chanting ‘Om Namah Shivaya’, slowly pour clean water on the Shivling. Alternatively, you may donate milk, curd, honey, ghee, sugar, bilva leaves, white flowers, sandalwood, akshat, fruits and bel fruit as per tradition. Lord Shiva is very fond of bilva leaves. Offer leaves that are both clean and fresh. Avoid leaves that are torn, dry or damaged.
First Sawan Somwar Puja Vidhi
Get up early and take a bath. Wear clean clothes. Clean your puja space properly before you start worship. Place a Shivling or a picture of Lord Shiva in a clean place. Light a Diya and incense. Slowly give water to the Shivling. Then give bilva leaves, flowers, fruits and other things. Recite “Om Namah Shivaya” 108 times. Then, in silence, pray for peace, health, and protection for a few minutes.
Sawan Somwar Vrat Rules
If you are observing a fast, make a sankalp in the morning. Some followers eat only milk and fruit. Some people have one sattvik meal. Follow the health status and customs of your family. Do not drink alcohol. Do not eat non-vegetarian food or onion and garlic. Do not talk harshly. Fasting must not become a burden. Devotion is more important than physical strain.
