Mapusa: A demolition drive targeting Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) violations in Tembwada, Morjim, turned dramatic on its fourth day when a homeowner attempted suicide as authorities moved to raze his property.Rajan Halarnakar, a forest department employee who lives with his disabled son, allegedly attempted to hang himself as enforcement teams approached his residence.Police personnel deployed at the site acted swiftly to thwart the extreme step and have since maintained a strict security vigil on the premises. The ongoing administrative crackdown stems from a high court and National Green Tribunal directive mandating action against 23 unauthorised structures, following a formal complaint filed by landowner Anil Prabhakar Naik.According to relatives, Halarnakar had been under severe psychological stress for days, fearing the total loss of his hard-earned dwelling. While officials continue their compliance sweep against illegal constructions along the coastal belt, the distressed family has urgently appealed for immediate govt intervention to safeguard their shelter.
