Panaji: The department of tourism has extended the deadline for new and renewal applications for temporary shacks, huts and cottages on private properties for the 2026-27 season by two months, from July 16 to Sep 15.The extension amends an earlier notice, which had set July 15 as the cut-off for submissions. No reason was cited for the extension in the notice issued on Saturday. Tourism director Kedar Naik announced the extension.Traditionally, the monsoon season has been treated as the off-season for beach tourism and commercial beach operations. The tourism department said applications will be accepted only from licensed private shack operators, hotels and restaurants registered with it. Establishments found encroaching on govt beach land will not be eligible for permission.
