NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast an active monsoon spell across north, east and northeast India over the next six to seven days, with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning likely in several states on Tuesday. While rainfall activity is expected to intensify across Delhi, Mumbai, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, west-central and south Peninsular India are likely to witness subdued monsoon conditions over the next week.
IMD alert: Heavy rain likely in several states
The IMD said active monsoon conditions are expected over north, east and northeast India during the next six to seven days. Heavy rainfall has been forecast for parts of Delhi, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan, while rainfall activity is likely to remain below normal over west-central and south Peninsular India.
Delhi weather tomorrow
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, forecasting light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms at isolated places on Tuesday. The southwest monsoon is expected to revive over the national capital after a prolonged lull, bringing cooler conditions over the next two days.
Mumbai weather tomorrow
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) is likely to witness a more active monsoon spell. Mumbai is expected to receive moderate rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, with heavy rainfall at isolated places on Thursday. Thane is likely to witness heavy rain at isolated places on Wednesday and Thursday, while Palghar is expected to receive light to moderate rain with thundershowers until Tuesday before heavy rainfall later in the week. Raigad is forecast to receive the most intense rainfall, with heavy rain at a few places on Thursday.
West Bengal weather
The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in the northern districts of West Bengal over the next two days due to an active southwest monsoon. Authorities have warned of possible landslides in hilly areas and flash floods in low-lying regions. In south Bengal, heavy rain is likely between July 21 and 23 in North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Howrah, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur and Jhargram. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also likely.
Kolkata weather
Kolkata is expected to receive intermittent rainfall from Tuesday, with rainfall activity intensifying through the week. Authorities have advised residents and fishermen to keep monitoring weather updates.
Uttarakhand weather
The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several parts of Uttarakhand over the next few days.
Himachal Pradesh weather
A red alert has been issued for parts of Himachal Pradesh for Tuesday, with very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall likely at isolated places in four to five districts.
Tamil Nadu weather
The IMD has forecast moderate rainfall over the Western Ghats districts of Tamil Nadu until July 24. Most other parts of the state, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, are likely to receive isolated spells of light to moderate rain.
Rajasthan weather
Monsoon activity is expected to revive in Rajasthan from July 21. Light to moderate rain is likely across eastern and northern parts of the state from Tuesday, while rainfall activity is expected to increase over western Rajasthan from July 25 onwards.
Monsoon update
According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon is poised for a significant revival after a prolonged break. The renewed activity is expected to begin over northeast India before gradually spreading to eastern, central and northern parts of the country during the week.
