Ahmedabad: Indundated clubs halt ops for safety

Ahmedabad: Heavy rain in Ahmedabad disrupted operations at prominent clubs, prompting managements to suspend amenities and restrict access. Most clubs informed members on Thursday that facilities would remain unavailable until further notice, citing safety concerns and the need for a cleanup.Karnavati Club reported water accumulation in multiple sections, with the entry and exit gates among the worst-hit points. Chetan Shah, president of Karnavati Club, said, “We prioritised members’ safety. We expect to resume functioning from Saturday, if it doesn’t rain further.”Key recreational areas of Rajpath Club were flooded. Vikram Shah, vice-president of Rajpath Club, said, “Waterlogging was reported in the badminton and squash courts and on the lawns. We plan to restart all amenities from Saturday.”In Navrangpura, several parts of Sports Club were flooded. Sandeep Shah, director of Sports Club, attributed the situation to local infrastructure constraints. “The entire club was waterlogged on Thursday night,” he said. “Drainage in nearby areas is inadequate, which worsened the situation. We expect the club to be operational by Sunday or Monday.”Club authorities said the resumption of full services would depend on weather conditions and the completion of sanitisation and restoration work.
