Caption: Forest department says it has found no evidence to support the big cat’s visit to ChandkhedaAhmedabad: The news of a leopard sighting at Serendeep Mansions in Shela early on Monday was followed by reports on Tuesday of a big cat strolling in Chandkheda.A picture of a leopard crossing a Chandkheda road went viral, with the owner of a cafe claiming that he had taken the picture.However, forest department officials later said that they had not found any evidence to substantiate the claims.In Shela, morning walkers were fewer than usual around Serendeep Mansions on Tuesday. The number of people visiting a temple in the area also declined sharply.The forest department and the Ahmedabad Zoo authorities set up four cages in the area, but failed to catch the leopard.As for the supposed Chandkheda sighting, Jaipal Singh, principal chief conservator of forests, said, “The forest department checked the area in the photo. The area appeared to be different in the daytime.”About the Shela sighting, Singh said that no trace of the leopard had been found.Forest department sources said that thermal drones and a 22-member team were used to scour Shela for a leopard.Ravirajsinh Rathod, deputy conservator of forests, Gandhinagar, said no pugmarks had been found. “However, our team is still in the area and not taking any chances,” he said.Gaurang Shah, a resident of Serendeep Mansions, said that life was normal during the day on Tuesday, but people were alert after dark.Darshan Patel, another resident of the area, said, “I usually go for morning walks and visit the temple on the way back home. But I drove in my car to the temple on Tuesday.”Few two-wheelers were seen around the area after dusk. The forest department has sent dos and don’ts to residents of the area.
