Ahmedabad: A retired govt employee and his wife had a narrow escape after four unidentified men allegedly tried to attack them with sticks and hurled bricks at them near Pragatinagar Garden in Naranpura on June 23. Based on the couple’s complaint, Naranpura police on Monday registered an FIR against the unidentified assailants.According to the complaint, Kiran Nayak, 59, went to pick up his wife, Kamal, 55, after her morning walk at the garden around 7.30 am. As the couple were leaving for home, they noticed a biker waiting near an under-construction building, accompanied by three men carrying sticks.As the couple approached their car parked behind the garden, one of the men allegedly ran towards them with a stick. The couple abandoned the vehicle and ran back towards the garden. Kiran tried to record the incident on his mobile phone but tripped and fell before he could capture the assailants. The complainant alleged that two of the assailants then threw bricks at the couple, but missed.AMC’s garbage collection staff who assembled nearby for attendance rushed to their rescue and thwarted further attempts to attack the couple. Seeing the workers approach, the men fled on a waiting motorcycle.The couple dialled the 112 emergency helpline and later approached Naranpura police. Police found CCTV footage from a nearby commercial complex showing the suspects fleeing the spot.The complainant told police that he did not know any of the attackers or their motive. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and are analysing CCTV footage to identify the accused.
