Ahmedabad: An Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) employee was allegedly threatened with a knife and abused by a man who objected to civic staff taking away his unregistered pet dog, police said.The incident occurred near Amber Tower in Sarkhej on Monday afternoon when AMC sanitary sub-inspector Nitin Solanki (45) was accompanying colleagues after they had caught a dog near the Sarkhej Roza cemetery.According to the complaint filed with Sarkhej police, Solanki works with the AMC’s Cattle Nuisance Control Department (CNCD) at Jamalpur. His team carries out vaccination, sterilisation and dog-catching operations under the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023.Around 1.30pm, Solanki received a call from Ishaq Saiyed, the driver of an AMC dog-catching vehicle. He said the team had gone to the Sarkhej Roza vicinity to catch street dogs. While they were putting a dog into the vehicle, a man approached and claimed that it was his pet.Solanki asked the man to show the dog’s registration. The man reportedly admitted that he had not registered the dog. The civic team therefore proceeded to take the dog to the ABC centre at Behrampura in Danilimda.Solanki and fellow sanitary sub-inspector Alpesh Prajapati later joined Saiyed and travelled towards the centre. When they reached near Amber Tower, the accused allegedly arrived on a scooter and stopped their vehicle.The man allegedly demanded to know why the civic team was taking away his dog and started abusing Solanki. He then allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened him.Saiyed, who was travelling behind the AMC vehicle, called the police control room. Following this, Solanki, Saiyed and other staff members went to Sarkhej police station.Solanki alleged that the man obstructed him and other civic employees from performing their lawful duties, threatened him with a knife, used abusive language and violated a public notification.Sarkhej police registered a complaint and began investigation.
