Calangute: The Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF) claimed that Goa’s eco-sensitive coastal belt can be protected only if the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) proactively enforces the CRZ notification, 1994, instead of ignoring “blatant violations”.Agnelo Barreto, CCF president, made the statement following the Bombay high court’s notice to GCZMA in a public interest litigation concerning alleged CRZ violations at King’s Mansion at Candolim.CCF has filed four PIL in recent months over coastal regulation breaches at Candolim. One petition, relating to a luxury resort, was disposed of by the high court last week. Two other petitions have already been heard.Barreto said that, of the four cases, two clubs have been demolished, but two other constructions—despite demolition orders—are yet to be removed. He said the petitions were filed because authorities failed to act on their own orders, accusing the GCZMA of “destroying the coastline” it is meant to protect.
