NEW DELHI: A woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband inside a hotel in north Delhi’s Lahori Gate area Thursday. Police suspect the man also attempted suicide after the killing.A preliminary inquiry has revealed that the couple had a family-related dispute.The woman, Shivani Kumari from Samastipur, Bihar, was married to Prakash Singh (27) from Rajasthan. Prakash runs a tea stall and Shivani worked in a beauty parlour in Old Delhi.The couple married about six months ago and initially lived together in Rajasthan. But after a month of staying with her husband, Shivani is suspected to have come to Delhi. She started staying on rent in Old Delhi.Police said Prakash travelled to Delhi Wednesday and contacted Shivani after reaching the city, asking her to meet him at the hotel. Investigators suspect he had planned the killing and subsequently intended to take his own life. The couple checked into a hotel in the Lahori Gate area around 3.30 pm.The incident came to light around 5.20 am Thursday when the hotel staff alerted police after finding Shivani lying in a pool of blood inside the room. A police team reached the spot and found Prakash too. He was unconscious. Both were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared Shivani brought dead. Prakash is under treatment. Police said Shivani had two stab wounds.Investigators suspect Prakash stabbed her at night before consuming some poisonous substance. Police are waiting for his condition to stabilise before questioning him.Investigators have collected evidence from the hotel room and are examining CCTV footage from the premises and surrounding areas to reconstruct their movements. They are also questioning hotel employees and others who may have interacted with the couple. The cops are also probing who brought the knife.The incident comes amid a series of murders reported in hotels in central and north Delhi.In March, a 24-year-old Delhi University student was arrested for killing a woman at a hotel in north Delhi’s Lahori Gate.In June last year, a 29-year-old woman was found murdered in a hotel room in central Delhi’s Paharganj.The same month, another woman was killed in a Paharganj hotel over suspicion of an extramarital affair.
