Surat: A delivery executive has been booked for allegedly removing original electronic products worth Rs 8.82 lakh from Amazon shipments, replacing them with dummy items and returning the consignments to a warehouse in the city.According to an FIR registered at Pal police station on Sep 5, the accused, identified as Jay Virash, was working as a delivery executive handling Amazon shipments through Intex Transportation Services Pvt Ltd.The complaint was filed by Mayur Shinde, a legal associate manager with the company. According to the FIR, the company received a suspicious notification from an Amazon warehouse in Pal area on Aug 20. Officials subsequently reviewed CCTV footage and examined shipments handled by Virash.During the inquiry, officials allegedly found that an original Samsung Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra 5G, valued at Rs 2.04 lakh, had been removed from its packaging and replaced with a dummy handset before the consignment was returned to the warehouse.The company then examined other shipments and allegedly found similar discrepancies. These included two SanDisk Extreme 8TB Portable External SSDs, valued at Rs 1.86 lakh each and an Apple iPhone 17 Pro 1TB, valued at Rs 1.83 lakh. The original products were allegedly replaced with dummy items.The complaint further stated that on Sep 2, Virash took an iPhone 17 Pro Max 256GB, valued at Rs 1.22 lakh, out for delivery. However, the company allegedly did not receive an OTP confirming the delivery and the shipment was not returned.Police said the total value of the five consignments mentioned in the complaint was Rs 8.82 lakh.The complainant alleged that Virash, whose responsibility was to deliver the products to customers within the stipulated time, opened the shipments, removed the original products, replaced them with dummy items and retained the original goods.A case has been registered under Section 316(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Pal police inspector B A Bhatt said, “We have arrested five employees, including Jay Virash in connection with the crime. The others in custody are Niraj Kushwaha, Vivek Khatik, Vivek Khatik and Nikhil Moradiya. They have conspired to swap the costly products.“
