Agartala: Two youths from Bihar were arrested in an intelligence-led operation on Monday at Shalbagan near the BSF Tripura Frontier headquarters on the Agartala-Khowai road during a vehicle-checking drive, police said. The arrests come ahead of the ADC Village Council elections on Sept 28 and Durga Puja amid heightened security.The accused were identified as Suraj Kumar (29) of Lakhisarai and Srikanth Kumar (36) of Vaishali. Police seized two foreign-made pistols, three magazines, eight live rounds, two mobile phones and three SIM cards. They allegedly arrived in Agartala by Deoghar Express on Saturday and stayed in north Agartala.After a tip-off, security teams tracked them travelling from Damdamia towards Agartala on Sunday night. Sensing checks near the BSF HQ, the accused abandoned their vehicle and tried to flee, but were intercepted around noon.SDPO Subrata Barman said police are probing the source of the arms, intended recipients, possible interstate trafficking links, earlier visits and local contacts. Police sought a five-day remand.
