New Delhi: Delhi’s govt hospitals are set to get 400 additional critical-care beds, with Public Works Department (PWD) planning dedicated critical-care blocks at five hospitals across the city.The proposed facilities will come up at Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital, Maharshi Valmiki Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital and Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS).Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital and Maharshi Valmiki Hospital are proposed to get 100-bed critical-care blocks each. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in west Delhi will also get a 100-bed facility, while Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital and IHBAS are slated to get 50-bed blocks each.PWD has invited tenders to appoint a consultancy agency for the project. The selected consultant will be responsible for integrated planning, architectural and engineering design, proof-checking and other technical services required for the development of the blocks.The consultancy will include an assessment of existing hospital campuses and surrounding areas through topographical surveys and mapping of underground utilities and infrastructure such as roads, drains, manholes and light poles.The agency will also examine land-use patterns, site conditions, pollution exposure and the feasibility of vertical construction where space constraints exist. The designs will have to comply with National Building Code, local building regulations and fire-safety norms, while also providing for future expansion, emergency access and disaster response.The expansion aims to strengthen critical-care infrastructure in govt hospitals while making better use of existing campuses and facilities.
