Pune: Former mayor and NCP city president Yogesh Behl has served a legal notice to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) mayor and municipal commissioner, alleging a violation of rules in convening the general body meeting scheduled for Sept 2.Behl contended that issues adjourned during a previous regular general body meeting cannot be included in a special general body meeting convened for a specific purpose. He alleged that despite this provision, almost all items listed on the agenda for the Sept 2 meeting have been carried forward from the previous general body meeting.The previous general body meeting was adjourned on Aug 17. PCMC officials, however, have rejected the allegations, stating that the Sept 2 meeting is a regular general body meeting and not a special meeting as claimed by opposition members.A senior civic official said that the issues left pending after being adjourned in the previous meeting could legally be taken up for discussion at the Sept 2 meeting.Municipal secretary Mukesh Kolap said a general body meeting can be convened if at least four standing committee members make a written demand at least three days before the proposed date.“Seven days’ advance notice is mandatory, but there is an exemption if at least four standing committee members make a written demand for a meeting. In such a case, the meeting can be called with three days’ notice,” Kolap said.In his legal notice, Behl has sought appropriate action to ensure that the Sept 2 meeting is conducted in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations. Several items, including a proposal to implement a toilet policy within PCMC limits, are among the issues scheduled for discussion during Wednesday’s meeting.
