Kolkata: Trinamool chairperson and ex-CM Mamata Banerjee on Thursday condemned the alleged vandalism at the party’s Camac Street office and warned of staging a dharna outside residences of BJP netas in Delhi if such “atrocities” continued in Bengal.“Even though we believe that the election was looted and the people were cheated, we have maintained democratic decorum and political courtesy…. But if these atrocities do not stop, I am sorry to say that I will have to march to Delhi, and if necessary, I will sit on a dharna in front of the BJP netas’ residences,” she said in a Facebook Live.Alleging that BJP had sent “goons” to the office, Banerjee claimed documents and records were ransacked and four people confined inside and assaulted.“BJP sent goons to our office in the middle of the night. Papers, documents, and records were vandalised. Four of our people were kept inside and subjected to torture,” she said, adding that the role of Shakespeare Sarani police station was being “noted”.Calling it “midnight barbarism”, she questioned what was happening in rural Bengal if this could occur “in the heart of Kolkata”.Banerjee said she respected police officers who upheld their uniform’s dignity but alleged some had become “predators”, attempting to destroy evidence and target witnesses under the BJP govt. She referred to the Baruipur gang rape case and police action against an accused in an encounter. She accused BJP of “total lawlessness”, including “hooliganism” at Jadavpur University and alleged hawkers were being displaced and shops demolished without alternatives through midnight “operations”.Banerjee also alleged BJP withdrew her security after taking office and rejected claims she retained Z-plus security. “Where is the Z-plus security? There is not a single security personnel here. Do not spread lies,” she said.Warning Modi and Shah, she alleged central forces were protecting “miscreants”, hurting BJP’s organisation and alienating grassroots workers. She claimed over 4,000 TMC offices had been occupied, workers confined to homes and FIRs filed daily.“We cannot be stopped. You will get tired of filing FIRs, but you will not be able to stop us,” she said, while also raising prices and offering cooperation on development, but insisting anti-corruption action must not hurt ordinary people’s livelihoods.
