Porvorim: Chief minister Pramod Sawant told the assembly on Monday that govt will release pending salaries of around 450 teachers in schools run by the Diocesan Society of Education (DSE), after seeking a legal opinion.The assurance followed sharp criticism from legislators over an order by education director Shailesh Zingde. Sawant also promised to sanction and fill vacant posts in diocesan schools.“If the diocesan schools have the strength, we will 100% give permanent posts. Within eight days, I will grant the permissions,” he said. He added that all issues would be resolved by the end of Sep.During Zero Hour, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai raised the issue. Sawant suggested salaries could be released once management committee chairpersons sign papers, but the opposition rejected it. Benaulim MLA Venzy Veigas questioned why the circular forced DSE to approach court. HC recently directed the state to pay salaries to aided minority institutions, calling the withholding — linked to disputes over who signs appointment letters — a violation of earlier orders.
