Surat/Rajkot: hree more people undergoing treatment after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in Bhavnagar died on Saturday, taking the death toll to 12.In Bhavnagar, Avinash Parmar (55) and Hardik Kilji (35) died at Sir T Hospital, while Sanjay Dodiya (37), a Gujarat Industrial Security Force (GISF) jawan, died at a private hospital in Surat.Parmar was working as a peon at the Bhavnagar court. Kilji, a resident of Bharatnagar, had been admitted to Sir T Hospital on August 20, while Parmar had been undergoing treatment in the ICU since August 19.Dodiya, who had been undergoing treatment for five days, was declared dead on Saturday. He had returned to Surat from Bhavnagar on Aug 17 and was hospitalised soon after. After he was admitted to a private hospital in the city, Surat police shared details of his health condition and background with the state monitoring cell.“The investigation into the Bhavnagar spurious liquor case is being conducted by the SMC. Officials from the SMC gathered details about Dodiya,” said a police officer.Dodiya was declared brain-dead on Friday. Police conducted a forensic postmortem, the report of which is expected to be an important document in the investigation.Dodiya’s family lives in Bhavnagar, while he lived alone in Surat. He was posted as a security guard at a polytechnic in Athwagate and stayed in government staff quarters.Preliminary inquiries revealed that Dodiya had travelled to Bhavnagar on Aug 15 to meet friends and later joined a party with some policemen. They allegedly consumed the spurious liquor, and Dodiya brought some of it back to Surat in a plastic bottle. His condition deteriorated soon after he returned to the city, and he was admitted to a private hospital near New Civil Hospital. As his condition worsened, he was shifted to another hospital, where he died on Saturday.
