NEW DELHI: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has written to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta seeking a fair, transparent and time-bound investigation into the alleged assault and subsequent death of 54-year-old Manipuri musician C Vikram Singh in southeast Delhi.In his letter, Khemchand sought Gupta’s personal intervention and asked for a high-level investigation under the direct supervision of senior police officers.“In view of the gravity of the situation, I earnestly request your personal intervention to ensure that: Expedited & High-Level Investigation: The investigation is conducted in a fair, transparent, and time-bound manner under the direct supervision of senior police leadership. Stringent Prosecution: All perpetrators and conspirators are apprehended without delay and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.“
Manipur CM seeks independent probe
The Manipur chief minister also called for exploring an independent investigation if warranted.“Independent Probe: Should circumstances warrant, the feasibility of transferring the case to an independent, specialised agency such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) be proactively explored to reinforce complete public confidence,” he said in the letter.Khemchand also sought stronger security measures for people from the Northeast living in Delhi, particularly students and working professionals.“Community Safety Measures: Visible confidence-building and security measures are reinforced across localities with significant populations of students and working professionals from Manipur and the North Eastern States,” the CM added in the letter.
Seven arrested in Vikram Singh death case
The letter followed the death of Chongtham Vikram Singh, a music teacher and Manipur native, after an alleged assault in Kilokari village in Ashram.According to police, Singh had objected to alleged shouting and nuisance by delivery workers and dhaba staff outside his residence. A dispute followed, during which he was allegedly attacked with fists and blows.Singh’s son, Yaiphaba, took him to Holy Family Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.South East DCP Vineet Kumar said, “Vikram Singh had an argument with some people in his lane over a lot of noise coming. After the argument, there was a physical altercation between them, in which he suffered injuries. His family took him to the hospital, where he passed away.”Delhi Police have arrested seven people and a juvenile in connection with Singh’s death, according to ANI.The incident has drawn concern across the Northeast community in Delhi, with calls for a swift investigation and accountability for those involved.(With agency inputs)
