Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) launched a pilot project using IoT-based technology to curb noise pollution caused by excessive honking across the city. Under the initiative, YHonk devices developed by YHonk Technology Private Limited will be installed in select municipal vehicles to monitor and analyse honking patterns through noise sensors. The data collected by the devices will be used under the Urban Noise Assessment and Mitigation Planning Programme to study driving behaviour and promote responsible use of vehicle horns. The initiative aims to create awareness among drivers about avoiding unnecessary honking, a major contributor to urban noise pollution. As part of the pilot, the company will install the devices free of cost in 300 AMC vehicles. Drivers using these vehicles will receive training and feedback based on the recorded data to encourage disciplined horn usage and reduce avoidable noise.AMC officials said the findings from the pilot project will help assess the effectiveness of the technology and guide future strategies for tackling noise pollution on a larger scale.
