Ahmedabad: After scrutiny of answersheets for GSHSEB’s SSC and HSC exams held in Feb-March, Board has taken punitive action against 3,334 teachers across Gujarat for errors in assessment.As per Board’s rules, teachers have been fined Rs 100 for every mark incorrectly evaluated. The scrutiny revealed errors ranging from one mark to more than 100 marks in some cases. Notices seeking explanations have also been issued to teachers who remained absent from the evaluation duties assigned to them.Board conducts answersheet verification and related scrutiny after declaring SSC and HSC results. During this process, several students were found to have their marks revised, indicating lapses in the original evaluation.Of the 3,334 teachers, 1,671 were from SSC, 1,137 from HSC general stream and 526 from HSC science stream. The teachers have been fined according to the number of marks found to have been incorrectly assessed.In Ahmedabad city, 109 SSC teachers have been fined for errors ranging from 10 to 112 marks. Their penalties range from Rs 1,000 to Rs 11,200. Similarly, 64 HSC general stream teachers were found to have made errors involving one to 30 marks and have been fined between Rs 100 and Rs 3,000.Ahmedabad City district education officer (DEO) has issued notices to all penalised teachers and directed them to deposit the fine within seven days. Failure to pay within the stipulated period could result in the principal of the school concerned being called for a personal hearing.The DEO has also taken action against teachers who failed to report for evaluation duties. Under Board rules, teachers cannot voluntarily refuse evaluation work and can be exempt only in special circumstances with Board’s approval.In Ahmedabad, 140 HSC general stream and 149 HSC science stream teachers were found absent from assigned evaluation duties. Notices have been issued to their schools seeking explanations within seven days. If a school failed to relieve a teacher for evaluation duty, the school will be liable to pay a fine of Rs 3,000 per teacher. If the teacher was relieved but remained absent, the penalty will be recovered from the teacher.
