Chennai: Three men were arrested after police foiled an auto-rickshaw and motorcycle race on the Maduravoyal-Tambaram 200 Feet Road near the Porur toll gate in the early hours of Saturday. The arrested were identified as Murugan, 38, who was driving the auto-rickshaw, and Arunpatsa, 26, and Karthik, 26, who were travelling on the motorcycle.Acting on information that an auto-rickshaw race had been organised at midnight, a police team led by inspector Chandramouli conducted surveillance near the Porur toll gate. Police found more than eight auto-rickshaws and two-wheelers assembled near the upper portion of Porur Lake for the race.When police reached the spot, the participants attempted to flee in their vehicles. The traffic police chased them and seized an auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle.The three men and the seized vehicles were handed over to the Avadi Traffic Investigation Police. A case was registered against them, and the accused were produced before the Poonamallee court.
