One more dies in Tiruvallur ammonia leak, death toll reaches 11
An ammonia gas leak at a seafood processing facility in Tiruvallur has led to another fatality

CHENNAI: One more worker succumbed to complications caused by the ammonia gas leak at a private seafood processing unit in Tiruvallur district, taking the death toll to 11, while 67 others continue to undergo treatment at hospitals in Chennai and Tiruvallur, according to the latest health department bulletin released on Thursday.Of the total 83 affected workers, 67 remain under medical observation, including 64 women and three men. As many as 16 patients are on ventilator support, 21 are receiving oxygen through nasal support and 30 are reported to be stable.Five workers have been discharged after treatment.According to the health department, the fatalities comprise nine workers from Odisha and two from Assam.The mortal remains of seven victims have already been airlifted to Odisha, while arrangements are under way to transport the bodies of the remaining four victims after legal formalities are completed.Among those undergoing treatment, 32 workers are from Odisha, 16 from Assam, nine from Jharkhand, six from Tamil Nadu, three from Kerala and one from West Bengal.
