New Delhi: Zamir Khan (31), a resident of Thoubal district in Manipur, would make multiple trips from the northeastern state to Delhi and target motorcycles and scooters parked in different parts of the city. Once the two-wheelers were stolen, his accomplice allegedly arranged for them to be moved to Manipur and other states.The trail began with a series of vehicle thefts reported across the city. “During the investigation, CCTV footage from different locations was analysed, and the movements of the suspect were tracked,” said DCP (West) Hareshwar V Swami.Acting on a tip-off, a team apprehended Khan in Kotla Mubarakpur. His accomplice remains absconding.During interrogation, Khan allegedly admitted to the crime. His disclosures led police to five stolen vehicles hidden at different locations in the city. The recovery comprised three scooters and two motorcycles, the cases of which were registered at Tilak Nagar, Hari Nagar, Nangloi, Janakpuri and DBG Road police stations.Further investigation is under way to piece together the interstate chain used to move the stolen vehicles out of Delhi. Khan’s possible involvement in other vehicle thefts is also under probe, along with a search for other members of the network.
