Lotte India clarifies choco pie recall after Drug FDA action

Chennai: Lotte India, a subsidiary of South Korea’s Lotte Corporation, has clarified that there is no ban on its Choco Pie product following regulatory action by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Durg, Chhattisgarh, over a specific batch of the snack. The company said the independent testing conducted by a third-party NABL-accredited laboratory found that the preservative levels in the batch were within permissible limits and that the product complied with applicable food safety standards. The clarification comes amid reports following the Durg FDA’s action, which raised concerns about the safety of Lotte Choco Pie.The FDA action is related specifically to Batch No. NM10DC2, manufactured on April 10, 2026, with an expiry date of April 9, 2027.Lotte India said it had voluntarily recalled the concerned batch as a precautionary measure while the test results were being independently assessed. The recall was limited to the specific batch and did not apply to Lotte Choco Pie as a product, it said.“Reports suggesting that Lotte Choco Pie has been banned or that the product as a whole has been declared unsafe are therefore incorrect,” the company said.Lotte India said it would continue to cooperate with the relevant authorities and take necessary steps to resolve the matter. It also reiterated its commitment to product quality, food safety and regulatory compliance.
