Heavy vehicles diverted on Belapur-Uran-Panvel road to reduce congestion

Navi Mumbai: Considering the frequent traffic congestion along the Belapur-Uran-Panvel stretch of road resulting in blocking the lane leading to the Atal Setu, the Navi Mumbai traffic department has issued a notification for diversion of heavy vehicles.Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Rahul Khade said that the traffic diversion for heavy vehicles travelling from the Belapur junction towards Uran has been implemented from June 26 midnight until further orders. Due to significant increase in movement of heavy vehicles in the Gavan phata traffic unit limits and work on a new bridge being underway, the backlog of heavy vehicles coming from Jungle cut and Chirner phata under Uran traffic unit is causing severe traffic snarls.Khade said, “To decongest the traffic on Wahal bridge, the heavy vehicles coming from Belapur-Kille gaothan junction has been diverted to the left side of the bridge.”He added: “Similarly, after the backlog in Gavan traffic unit limits, the heavy vehicles has been diverted to the Wahal bridge and stopped for some time. Similarly, light vehicles has been diverted towards the right side of the bridge.”Khade said that after reviewing the traffic congestion on Gavan phata bridge ahead, the heavy vehicles will be allowed to travel further in batches instead of allowing a continuous flow of vehicles that could cause bottlenecks and complete chock-a-block.
