HC dismisses PIL seeking guidelines for NEET

Chennai: Madras high court on Thursday dismissed a plea seeking directions to the Union govt to frame permanent guidelines to ensure NEET is conducted in a fair and transparent manner.When the plea came up for hearing, the first bench of Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan pointed out that the issue had been already seized of by the Supreme Court. In 2024, the apex court directed the formulation of guidelines relating to NEET. This apart, recently the apex court had admitted a plea regarding the NEET question paper leak and sought the responses of the Union govt and the National Testing Agency (NTA), the bench said.Therefore, the bench said, it could not entertain the petition and dismissed it.According to the petitioner R Venkateswaran, the exam conducted on May 3 has been cancelled in view of allegations of question paper leak. A re-examination has been scheduled on June 21. To prevent reoccurrence of such issues, the petitioner wanted the court to direct the Union govt to frame guidelines to ensure NEET is conducted in a fait and transparent manner.
