Gujarat’s NRI deposit pool swells to Rs 1.22L crore, Ahmedabad tops list

Ahmedabad: NRI deposits in Gujarat rose 12.4% year-on-year to touch Rs 1,22,363.74 crore in first quarter of 2026-27, up from Rs 1,08,897.99 crore in the same period last year, an increase of roughly Rs 13,466 crore, according to the latest State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) Gujarat report.Ahmedabad remained the top contributor, accounting for more than a fifth of the state’s total with Rs 27,326.02 crore, or 22.3% of overall deposits. Vadodara followed with Rs 19,447.11 crore, and Kutch ranked third with Rs 18,212.65 crore; together, these three districts made up over half of Gujarat’s NRI deposit base.

“The rise in NRI deposits reflects continued interest among overseas Gujaratis in keeping their funds in the state. A significant portion is also being channelled into high-end residential properties, particularly in Ahmedabad, while mutual funds are emerging as another investment avenue,” said a senior banking sector source.Anand stood fourth with Rs 9,746.58 crore, while Surat and Rajkot posted Rs 9,480.82 crore and Rs 9,368.49 crore respectively. Both showed strong annual growth — Surat climbed from Rs 8,268.46 crore and Rajkot from Rs 8,597.65 crore in June 2025.Navsari held seventh place with Rs 6,928.78 crore, followed by Gandhinagar at Rs 5,353.23 crore, which newly entered the top 10, displacing Jamnagar, which had ranked 10th a year earlier with Rs 2,171.69 crore in NRI deposits. Kheda and Porbandar rounded out the top 10 with Rs 3,138.04 crore and Rs 2,805.37 crore respectively.Among the leading districts, Ahmedabad added about Rs 2,138 crore during the year, Vadodara gained nearly Rs 1,593 crore, and Kutch rose by about Rs 1,426 crore. The district-wise rankings remained largely stable, with Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Kutch, Anand, Rajkot, Surat and Navsari retaining their positions among the top seven.
