Gujarat: Manjalpur assembly bypoll on July 30, result on Aug 3

Gandhinagar: Voting for the byelection of the Manjalpur assembly constituency in Vadodara city will be held on July 30, the Election Commission of India announced on Thursday. Counting of votes will be taken up on August 3. The seat has been vacated following the death of MLA Yogesh Patel.An official statement said a notification for the byelection will be published on July 6 and the last date for filing nominations will be July 13. Nomination papers of candidates will be scrutinised on July 14 and last date for withdrawal of papers will be July 16.Former Gujarat minister and eight-time BJP MLA Yogesh Patel died in Vadodara on June 2. The sitting 79-year-old MLA had been unwell for quite some time and was undergoing treatment at a local hospital.A veteran BJP leader, Patel served as a legislator for 36 years and was elected to the Gujarat assembly eight consecutive times, starting from 1990.
