GFP writes to speaker, seeks time for ‘meaningful discussion’ on three issues

Panaji: Goa Forward Party (GFP) has demanded a 30-minute discussion during the three-day session of the Goa legislative assembly on poor road conditions, unemployment and unplanned construction in the state. GFP president Vijai Sardesai has written to speaker Ganesh Gaonkar asking for “meaningful discussion” on the three pressing issues which “deserve answers and a clear roadmap” from govt.“The deteriorating condition of roads across Goa, recurring potholes, inadequate maintenance and poor planning have become a serious public safety concern. Govt must be called upon to explain the reasons for the continuing deterioration and the measures being taken to address the crisis,” said Sardesai.“If this does not happen, then we will hit the streets and if that does not solve the issue then we will make it an election issue and govt will fall,” said the GFP MLA.Sardesai also said that Goa’s youth are concerned about the lack of adequate and sustainable employment opportunities. “The House must discuss govt’s employment policies, recruitment mechanisms, creation of jobs and measures to ensure that Goan youth receive fair opportunities in their own state,” said Sardesai. He said that the unchecked pace of construction and unplanned development places pressure on Goa’s land, water, roads, waste-management systems and other infrastructure. “The absence of a comprehensive carrying capacity framework threatens Goa’s environment, resources, identity and quality of life. These are state-wide issues which transcend political and constituency boundaries and require a discussion in the assembly,” said Sardesai.
