Ahmedabad: A 40-year-old woman on Saturday filed a complaint with Gandhinagar Mahila police alleging years of physical and mental cruelty by her husband and mother-in-law. She has also accused her husband of abandoning the family after signing a live-in relationship agreement with another woman.According to the FIR, the complainant married in April 2005 and has two children — an 18-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old son. She alleged that while the first year of marriage was peaceful, her mother-in-law began harassing her over trivial issues. After the birth of her daughter in 2008, the harassment intensified.The woman alleged that instigated by his mother, her husband abused and assaulted her frequently.Around six months ago, she allegedly discovered from her husband’s phone that he was involved with another woman. When she confronted him, he allegedly assaulted her and continued subjecting her to physical and mental cruelty, often in the presence of their two children.On March 27 this year, the man allegedly left home without informing the family, prompting her to file a missing person complaint at Dabhoda police station. Two days later, he returned after executing a live-in relationship agreement with the other woman and began living with her.It was decided the complainant and her children would move to another house owned by her husband in Nana Chiloda. While packing her belongings on April 3, she was allegedly assaulted by the husband and mother-in-law and threatened with death if she returned.The complainant said she underwent treatment at Gandhinagar Civil Hospital the next day and submitted her medical records along with a copy of the alleged live-in relationship agreement to police.
