New Delhi: Former national-level wrestler, 31-year-old Amit Sheoran, who had been declared a proclaimed offender in a drug smuggling case registered in Jharkhand, has been nabbed in Delhi after evading arrest for nearly three years, police said Wednesday.The Rohtak resident from Haryana was declared an offender by a court on Dec 6, 2023, in connection with an NDPS case registered at Dhurwa (Tupudana) police station in Ranchi.Sheoran was apprehended near Madhuban Chowk Metro Station on Aug 18 following a tip-off and technical surveillance, police said. He was later handed over to Jharkhand Police.The case dates back to April 2023 when Jharkhand Police arrested an alleged supplier with 492 grams of opium. During interrogation, the supplier named Sheoran as one of the recipients of the contraband.During questioning, Sheoran told police that he had competed at state and national levels, securing third place in National Cadet Wrestling Championship in 2013. He later allegedly got involved in smuggling opium from Jharkhand and supplying it to wrestlers in Delhi and Haryana.Police said he is involved in six criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder, Arms Act and NDPS cases.
