Chennai: Madras high court has dismissed as withdrawn a plea moved by former DMK minister Duraimurugan seeking transfer of a disproportionate assets case against him from the Chennai special court for cases against MPs and MLAs to a special court in Vellore. On Thursday, when the plea came up for hearing before Justice G K Ilanthiraiyan, counsel for the petitioner submitted that Supreme Court had stayed further proceedings pending before the Chennai court and sought permission to withdraw the petition. Recording the submission, the court allowed the request. The issue pertains to a case registered by DVAC in 2011 against Duraimurugan, who served as PWD minister in the 2006-11 DMK govt. It was alleged that he amassed assets worth ₹1.40 crore disproportionate to his known sources of income during the period. In Jan 2017, a Vellore special court discharged both Duraimurugan and his wife, Santhakumari, from the case. Challenging the order, DVAC moved for an appeal. The high court set aside the order of the special court and ordered a fresh trial to be completed within six months.Subsequently, the special court in Chennai took up the case. Duraimurugan and his wife sought transfer of the case to the Vellore special court. However, the petition was dismissed. Aggrieved, Duraimurugan moved the high court.
