Calangute: A five-member inter-state gang that stole 16 gold rings from a jewellery showroom in Candolim in broad daylight on Friday has been arrested by Calangute police on Sunday at Raigad, Maharashtra. Four others accompanying them have also been detained and brought to Goa.The theft was reported at Calangute police station on Friday by Uday Shirodkar from Candolim. The accused persons committed theft at around 12.30pm, and the incident was recorded on the CCTV camera, which helped identify the culprits.“Immediately after registration of the offence, an investigating team was constituted. Through technical surveillance and coordinated field operations, the identities of the accused persons were established, ” said Calangute police.With the assistance of Raigad police, Calangute police team traced and apprehended the accused at a hotel in Lorne, Raigad.The accused, all from Maharashtra, were identified as Pandurang Ganpat Pawar (76), Mangesh Bhau Surve (35), Satish Namdev Shinde (41), and Joshna Anand Pawar (65), all from Kharnale, Mahad, and Vimal Rajendra Jadhav (61) from Satara.During the investigation, 15 gold finger rings were recovered.“We have found that they were earlier involved in theft cases in Uttarakhand and Lucknow,” said Calangute PI Laxi Amonkar.Further investigation is under way under the supervision of PI Amonkar and SDPO Porvorim Vishwesh Karpe, who also holds charge as SP, North Goa.
