Pune: As rescue teams continued their grim, round-the-clock task of searching for survivors at the Moshi waste-to-energy plant collapse site on Thursday, anxious families waited outside for news of their loved ones.Among those still feared trapped are Mahesh Kumbhar, 32, a newly married HR executive; Sunny Mane, 32, a driver; Nagesh Gaikwad, a member of the housekeeping staff; and Waman Dagdu Kasbe, 50, a worker at the plant.Kumbhar, originally from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, got married on June 22. He joined Antony Waste Handling Cell Ltd, the plant’s operator, a year ago and lived with friends in a rented house. He planned to start living with his wife in a new rented house in Chakan from July 19. “Just two or three days ago, Mahesh spoke to my wife about shifting to Pune with his wife. Around 1 am on Thursday, I got a call from the company about the incident, and immediately left for Pune,” his elder brother Santosh told TOI.Moshi resident Mane is the sole breadwinner of his family — his wife and two children, aged 8 and 2. His brother-in-law Nitin Sarode said Mane came home on Wednesday to collect his lunch and returned to the office to eat with his colleagues and seniors. “The incident occurred around the time he reached the office. Had he reached even a little later, he might have escaped,” Sarode said.Gaikwad too was on duty in the administrative wing when it collapsed. “Nagesh got married around a year and a half ago and has a young child,” Arun Kharat, a relative, said.Kasbe, a resident of Godown Chowk in Moshi, moved from Beed to Pune 10-15 years ago. He worked at a mechanic’s workshop before joining the waste processing facility around five years ago. His duties involved clearing residual waste from the processing machines after garbage was treated at the plant. “His income was a major support for the family as they are not financially well off,” his nephew Krushna Kasbe said.Meagre though his earnings were, Krushna said Kasbe was happy as his house was under construction. “He would often visit the site whenever he had time to check on the progress,” Krushna added. Kasbe has four children — the eldest son is employed as a driver, two sons are students, and a daughter was recently married.A Family in ShockOn Wednesday, Bhavesh Wani sent his wife Mohini a simple message: “I’m having lunch.” Minutes later, the building caved in, killing him. Mohini and Bhavesh were married for a year and a half and lived with his parents in Rupeenagar. The Wani family, which hails from Jalgaon district, has been beset by tragedy over the past few years. Bhavesh’s sister died five years ago and, on Wednesday, his parents lost their only surviving child. Bhavesh’s family struggled when he was a child — his father went door to door selling papads and bread. A bright student, Bhavesh moved to Pune for employment and joined the company seven years ago as a senior executive accountant, responsible for operations at the company’s Kasarwadi and Moshi offices.Colleagues remember Bhavesh as a disciplined, humble and soft-spoken person who kept to himself. “He got along well with everyone,” Rahul Patil, who worked with him for two years in the Kasarwadi office, said. “He was at the Kasarwadi office for three days and went to the Moshi office on Wednesday. I never imagined Tuesday would be the last time we ever met,” Patil added.
