Kolkata: An unidentified man got down from a vehicle and snatched a gold chain from a 75-year-old woman in Bansdroni on Friday morning. The incident took place when the victim was returning from her morning walk.According to police, the victim, Jayanti Bhattacharya, is a resident of Baishnabghata under Netaji Nagar Police Station. She is a member of the Bidhanpally Laughing Club and frequents the neighbourhood daily for her morning routines. The crime occurred as she was passing in front of a store, Das Bhandar, located at 117 Bidhanpally. The assailant approached her, targeted her gold chain, and fled the scene before she could call for help.Describing her ordeal to cops, Bhattacharya said, “The man suddenly got down from a vehicle in front of Das Bhandar, and snatched the gold chain from my neck, weighing about two ‘bhoris’. He then fled the scene through the field-side road.”Based on her complaint, the Bansdroni Police Station registered a case against the unknown miscreant under Section 304(2) of the BNS, which pertains to snatching. Officers have initiated an inquiry into the incident. Police are examining CCTV footage from nearby establishments to trace the route taken by the suspect and the vehicle involved in the escape. Further investigation is on to find the stolen chain.
