Agartala: Chief minister Manik Saha on Tuesday informed Tripura assembly that six FIRs have been registered against former chief minister and CPM veteran Manik Sarkar for his alleged remarks warning of a “fierce protest” to oust the BJP-led state govt in the 2028 assembly polls.Saha said the first FIR was registered at West Agartala police station following a complaint lodged by one Prabir Roy over Sarkar’s Aug 10 speech at a political event.According to the complaint, Sarkar’s remarks implied that the agitation would escalate into a “fierce protest” if demands were not met. The complainant alleged that such statements from a senior political leader could incite unrest and disrupt public peace.Echoing these concerns, Saha noted that such rhetoric could embolden anti-social elements to disrupt law and order and threaten public safety.Subsequently, five Zero FIRs were registered against Sarkar at Kalyanpur, Khowai, Bishalgarh, Kadamtala, and Teliamura police stations. Investigations are underway.The chief minister said legal proceedings have been initiated and reiterated the state govt’s commitment to maintaining peace regardless of political affiliations. He also advised leaders across party lines to exercise restraint in their speech to avoid inciting public disorder.
