Pune: A 40-year-old finance firm executive driving under the influence of alcohol lost control of the wheel and crashed his car into the median around 5.50am on Sunday.The incident happened at Wakad Chowk on the Hinjewadi-Aundh Road. The accused, a resident of Aundh, has been charged under sections 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 282 (rash driving on a public way) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and sections 185 (driving by a drunken person) and 184 (driving dangerously) of the Motor Vehicles Act by Wakad police.Assistant inspector Vinay Zinjurke said, “The accused was returning home to Aundh after attending a party in Hinjewadi. He lost control of the wheel and crashed into the road divider. When the police team reached the spot, they found that the car’s front tyres were flattened.”Residents of the area told the police that the man was driving his car at a high speed and had hit an unidentified vehicle before crashing into the median.“On being asked to come to the station, he abused the policemen. We took him into custody and sent him to a hospital for a medical examination. The report confirmed that he was under the influence of alcohol,” Zinjurke added.The Wakad police in the early hours of Monday registered a separate case against a 37-year-old Wakad resident for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. The police said the accused had stopped his vehicle in the middle of the road, obstructing other vehicles.
