NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leader Surav Das has criticised Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta over the condition of government schools in Chhatarpur, claiming that facilities promised during her visit to Sanjay Colony six months ago remain in poor shape and setting September 15 as a deadline for the authorities to act.In a post on X, Das tagged Gupta and said a “river of garbage” now welcomed schoolchildren at the same spot where she had visited in February and spoken about improving the school.He claimed that residents had been seeking a proper school for children from nursery to Class 12 and alleged that both an MCD school and a Delhi government school in the area were in poor condition.According to Das, a social audit conducted as part of the CJP’s “School Thik Karo” campaign found tin roofs, unfinished flooring, garbage around the premises and what he described as poor-quality mid-day meals.He also alleged that the schools lacked access to computers and libraries, while toilets were either not constructed or were in “pathetic” condition.Das raised concerns about the impact of the conditions during the monsoon and said the overall surroundings were “filthy”.He also questioned whether ministers and political leaders would send their own children to schools functioning in such conditions.The CJP leader said residents of Sanjay Colony were asking the government to fulfil the commitments made during the chief minister’s earlier visit.Das said September 15 had been fixed by local residents as the deadline for the government to address the school-related issues.He added that the CJP would return to the area if the schools were not repaired and promised to continue its campaign until the demands were addressed.“Education cannot wait for this long,” Das said in the post.The post was shared as part of the CJP’s ongoing “School Thik Karo” campaign, which has focused on highlighting infrastructure and other facilities in government schools.
